The French River is steeped in history. Long before the French explorers Samuel de Champlain and Étienne Brûlé, long before it was used as a route for the fur traders, the French River was a waterway for the Indigenous peoples of this region. The Ojibwe called it Wemitigoj-Sibi. At the end of the 19th century, it slowly started to become settled as a summer resort area but due to its rugged Canadian shield nature, much of the river has remained relatively untouched today. The residents of the French have a spiritual connection with the land, the water, and nature, just like its original peoples. They respect its heritage. The cottage, like this river, has a history running deep. Generational. To say that the owner wanted this magical place to be his legacy would be an understatement. Pictu
